Fofo served our base (YWAM Muizenberg) for almost a year as a cook. A sometimes thankless job, and in this recession, it was an increasingly difficult task to cook for numerous missionaries on a very tight budget. He served because he had a desire to be a missionary to Africa, and considered being a cook in a mission base a portal to his African calling. Fofo had a joy of life, a heart for children in need, a great sense of humour, and an almost child-like stubborness against protocols or structures which would mute his generous and magnanimous spirit.
Fofo had a gift for not only entertaining children but also for listening to them, respecting their personhood and giving them support, encouragement and laughter.
We find comfort in knowing that he is with his heavenly Father, whom he was willing to radically serve and obey.
May he enter his eternal reward with joy. We will miss him!
